Priit Pärn

Feeding the Birdie

2005

“Pärn brings narrative – the story itself – to the foreground. Such an intense drive to tell stories, combined with a rapid, rhythmic handling of events, is found in Estonian graphic art only in the work of Priit Pärn. Although there may be as many as a thousand graphic artists across different generations – and many of them are excellent – none approach the subject matter of the image in quite the same way. This is an extraordinary example of how an artist – a gifted and inventive creator – can benefit from not having undergone formal training, from not being channelled into predetermined aesthetic frameworks. In this sense, he is entirely self-made: he creates his own imagery, his own visual world, and defines what he presents. Perhaps this is the ultimate achievement in contemporary art, the ultimate freedom.” – Eha Komissarov. See: Priit Pärn Kumu kunstimuuseumis 2007. OP: https://arhiiv.err.ee/video/vaata/op-275
