Priit Pärn

The Horizontal Pianist

1993

“I don’t remember why I first tried drawing with charcoal, but I immediately realised I had discovered something completely different from my earlier way of drawing. The lines can be softly erased into non-existence; there is a sense of freedom and intensity. Creating a large charcoal drawing is a physical activity – you draw with your whole body, not just your hand. In that sense, it’s almost like sport, and I have always enjoyed sport.” – Priit Pärn. Exhibition at Kumu Art Museum, 31 March – 21 October 2007. Catalogue, p. 8.
