The fabric pattern winding along the walls and ceilings from the beginning of the exhibition is based on a design created by Maria Kapajeva’s mother, later restored and further developed by Sandra Kosorotova. Rather than handmade objects, the legacy Maria inherited from her mother consists of the hundreds of designs she created for Kreenholm’s textile production. Something widely distributed and familiar to many people may, for someone else, be deeply personal. The patterns that once decorated thousands of homes and covered countless bodies always speak to the artist of her mother.
