Marko Mäetamm

Marko Mäetamm (b. 1965) is an artist whose work is based on personal stories which he uses to create existentially absurd and caricatured socially critical works. His work is characterised by multidisciplinarity, seriality and narrative, where the figurative image and the text that complements it are equally important. Although the artist’s works mostly deal with his own family, he also creates generalisations with his stories. Mäetamm studied print art (BA, 1993) and liberal arts (MA, 1995) at the Estonian Academy of Arts and furthered his education in printing technologies at the Swedish Royal Art High School. He has received the Kristjan Raud Award (2000), the Order of the White Star, 5th Class (2008), the Baltic Assembly Prize for the Arts (2009) and the Estonian State Cultural Award (2010 and 2019), and was nominated for the Köler Prize (2012).
